Rainer Friedrich, Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, Basel, Switzerland
Rainer Friedrich obtained his PhD at the Max-Planck-Institute for Developmental Biology after studying neurobiology and biophysics in Germany and Canada. He then was a postdoctoral fellow at Caltech in the laboratory of Gilles Laurent and head of a research group at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research before moving to the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland, where he is currently senior group leader and professor at the University of Basel. Rainer Friedrich uses optical, physiological, molecular and theoretical approaches to study computations performed by neuronal circuits in the olfactory system of zebrafish.
